Sally Lane Johnson's Obituary
Sally Lane Johnson, age 88 of Washington, D.C. and Rehoboth Beach, DE, passed away on Tuesday, July 31, 2018, at Beebe Hospital in Lewes after a short illness. She was born on December 15, 1929 in Petersburg, VA, daughter of the late William and Sarah (Seward) Lane.
Sally attended Mount Vernon Seminary and Sweet Briar College, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude. She married the love of her life, Walter Morgan Johnson, Jr., on December 8, 1951. Sally was extremely involved in her community and held multiple leadership positions in the Junior League of Washington, The Sulgrave Club of Washington, and The Altar Guild of All Saints Church in Chevy Chase, MD, where she was renowned for her beautiful flower arrangements. She also co-founded the Four Seasons Garden Club in Chevy Chase, MD. She adored her dachshunds and served on the Board of the Washington Animal Rescue League. Sally loved spending time her husband, Walter Morgan Johnson Jr., who predeceased her on November 28, 2017, her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and her dear friends.
Sally and Walter Johnson were members of Columbia Country Club, Chevy Chase Club, Rehoboth Beach Country Club, and the Coral Beach Club in Bermuda.
Sally is survived by her three daughters, Sally Johnson Fogarty, Bailey Johnson Scheurer and Elizabeth Johnson Egloff; her sons-in-law, John Scheurer and Scott Egloff; her grandchildren, Robert Hicks Fogarty (Susannah), Sally Lane Fogarty Strand (Peter), Richard Gibbs Fogarty (Margaret), Bailey Elizabeth Fogarty, Annie Scheurer Casertano (Tyler), Allison Miller Scheurer, and Walter Morgan Egloff; and her seven great-grandchildren.
A celebration of Sally's life will be held at All Saints Church, Chevy Chase, MD on October 4, 2018 at 11:00 AM.
