Sally Theresa Heaney's Obituary
Sally Theresa Heaney, age 76 of Millsboro, DE, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 19, 2021, surrounded by her family at her home. She was born on April 10, 1945, in Brooklyn, NY, daughter of the late Fanny McCafferty and Patrick James Brennan. She was the youngest of three children.
Sally was a loving wife, mother of three, and grandmother of two. On the days that she wasn't busy caring for her family, she found joy in charities that sought to better the lives of others. Sally founded the first youth group, the ‘B’ tweens, at her family's parish, Saint Francis of Assisi, in Derwood, MD. In the late 1980’s, she established and coordinated a “Spirit Tree” that would match needy families from a parish in Washington, DC with Christmas gifts. Sally led the program for more than twenty years. She also was passionate about volunteering her time mentoring young mothers at a local pregnancy center. After Sally and Bob retired and left Maryland, she volunteered and served on the board of Delaware’s Arc of Refuge.
Sally lived her life in service of the Lord, her family, and her peers. She was considered compassionate and fiery and was an amazing person by all standards. Those who were lucky enough to have shared her light will carry that warmth for eternity.
Sally is survived by her beloved husband, Robert (Bob) Heaney; her children: Kellie, Robert, (Beth) and Sean; and her grandchildren: Molly and Finn.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, December 29, 2021, at 11:00 AM, at St. Edmond Catholic Church, 409 King Charles Avenue, Rehoboth Beach, DE, where friends may visit beginning at 10:00 AM. Interment will be private.
Repass will be announced after the services.
