Sally Ann Bunce's Obituary
Sally Ann Bunce, age 88, of Georgetown, DE, passed away at home after a short illness on Wednesday, January 9, 2019. She was born Wednesday September 3, 1930 in Newark, NJ, daughter of the late Isaac D. Short II and Uula (Morton) Short.
Sally graduated from Milford High School in 1948 and attended college in pursuit of becoming a kindergarten teacher, leaving college to become married to her late husband Charles Joseph. Widowed a few years after marriage, she remarried to her husband of ten years Michael Bunce. She worked in her father’s law office, later running kitchens in a halfway house. She enjoyed serving her community by volunteering as a line volunteer for disabled and elderly clients through Geriatric Services of Delaware. In 1995, Sally was nominated for the Governor’s Outstanding Volunteer Award.
In her youth Sally enjoyed swimming, diving, and family fishing vacations in Canada. She was a high school cheerleader. Sally loved cooking and decorating. She was an avid Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies Sports fan and enjoyed rooting for the underdog. Sally loved dancing and listening to all kinds of music. She enjoyed spending time with children and animals. Sally always found peace in waterfalls.
In addition to her parents, Sally was preceded in death by her infant son Ricky Joseph and her brother J. Christopher Short, former pitcher for the Philadelphia Phillies. She is survived by two children: Michelle Bunce of Mechanicsburg, PA and Howard Joseph of Wilmington, DE; one grandchild, Lindsay Bunce and her significant other Malcom Harwood of Hamilton, NJ; one brother Mike Short of Georgetown, DE; and three nephews: Rhawn Short of Wilmington DE and Mickey and Eric Short of FL.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, January 18, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Dodd-Carey Chapel, 307 N Bedford Street Georgetown, DE, where friends may visit beginning at 10:00 AM.
