Ruth D. Valva's Obituary
Ruth D. Valva, age 86 of Lewes, DE passed away peacefully on Wednesday June 8th, 2016 at the Beebe Medical Center surrounded by her family.
Mrs. Valva was born on December 14th 1929 in Scranton, PA. She is the daughter of the late Nella Zemaitis and the late Joseph P. Zemaitis.
Mrs. Valva was the loving wife of Vincent T. Valva of Lewes, Delaware for 63 years, with whom she raised four children; Lisa Phillips, Thomas Valva, Maria Jackson, and Robert Valva. She is the grandmother of seven grandchildren; Christa and Stephan Gasiewicz, Jacob, Cole and Ethan Valva, and Monica and Thomas Valva Jr.
Mrs. Valva attended the Eagle’s Nest fellowship in Milton, DE.
Mrs. Valva worked as an executive assistant for the American Express company in New York City, a private executive consultant in Hillsdale, NJ and Lehn & Fink, Inc. in Montvale NJ.
Mrs. Valva enjoyed many forms of music, including rock, flamenco, and classical, and she was especially fond of opera, particularly those featuring the tenor Placido Domingo.
Mrs. Valva was passionate about her family, music, and her faith, and she was a talented and prolific artist. She was self-trained, working in oil, acrylic, and watercolors. Her paintings are eclectic, nature-based abstracts with an oriental influence. She attained professional status later in life selling many works in the shops of Lewes, DE. Mrs. Valva frequently participated in the Children’s Beach House charity art shows, and her works were featured at the Buttery Restaurant in Lewes, DE. Mrs. Valva also participated in numerous art exhibitions in Lewes and the surrounding area. She was a member of the Cape Artists League, and shared her gift often by teaching painting classes at the Osher Lifelong Learning Center.
A public viewing will be held from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM, with a memorial service beginning at 3:00 PM Thursday, June 16, 2016 at Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE.
A private interment will be held at a later date.
