Ruth W. Thigpen's Obituary
Ruth W. Thigpen, a resident of Lewes for over the past twelve years, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 10, 2019.
Born on June 3, 1927, in Virginia, Ruth lived in Blacksburg where she met William Lewis Thigpen, a student at Virginia Polytechnic Institute. They were married on September 15, 1945. Supporting her husband’s career that began with the Pennsylvania Railroad’s Mechanical Department, Ruth raised a family while relocating many, many times to various cities throughout the Northeast and Midwest. Before moving to Lewes, Ruth and Bill lived 30 years in Wilmington, DE where he was general foreman of the Wilmington shops for Conrail. Ruth loved the beach, traveling, swimming, playing bridge, quilting, knitting and volunteering. One of her favorite volunteer activities was being a baby rocker at the Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children, Wilmington.
Ruth was a devoted and loving wife for 56 years to Bill, beloved mother of Jane T. Casazza and her husband Kenneth A. of Lewes, DE and William C. Thigpen of Milford, DE and his late wife Nancy E. Thigpen; cherished grandmother of Jaren C. Janghorbani and her husband Alexander of Brooklyn, NY, Kyle A. Casazza and his wife Catie of Los Angeles, CA, Matthew W. Thigpen of Pittsburgh, PA, Alexander M. Thigpen and his wife Samantha of Exton, PA, and Kathryn E. Thigpen of Philadelphia, PA; and doting great-grandmother to Max and Zoe.
Ruth is survived by her brother, Paul A. Weddle of Dunwoody GA and dear family friend, Joan Patrick of Covington, VA.
Ruth will be placed beside her husband in the columbarium at Arlington National Cemetery. Service will be private.
