Ruth Brierton Mason's Obituary
Ruth Brierton Mason, age 89, of Lewes, DE, passed away on Tuesday, November 7 at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes. Mrs. Mason was born August 29, 1917 in Dumbarton, Scotland, daughter of the late Robert and Catherine (Douglas) Brierton.
Mrs. Mason was a long time resident of N.E. Phildelphia where she was a 40 year member of the Daughters of the British Empire and a member of Ormiston Mansion in Fairmount Park, Philadelphia. Mrs. Mason loved her Scottish heritage and supported everything Scottish. She was a life member of the Old Pine Street (Third, Scots and Mariners) Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia. As a member of the church, she made crafts and was known for her shortbread, all of which helped support the church. She relocated to Lewes in 1995.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Andrew Mason (1995) who also was born in Scotland, was a U.S. Army veteran of WW II. She is survived by family living in Scotland and Australia and her dear friends, Joyce M. Hannisch, Mr & Mrs. James Gervan, and Janet Scully.
Funeral services will be held Monday, November 13, 11 AM, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE; Rev. Dianne Deming will be officiating. There will be no viewing and interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Lewes Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 612, Lewes, DE 19958 or to the Harbeson United Methodist Church, Rt. 5, Harbeson, DE 19951.
