Ruth S. Fowler's Obituary
Ruth S. Fowler of Seaford, DE, formerly of Baltimore, MD, age 90, passed away on Sunday, September 11, 2011, at the Methodist Manor House in Seaford, DE. She was born October 4, 1920 in Baltimore, MD, daughter of the late Louis Oscar and Margaret (Ritter) Stirn.
Mrs. Fowler was a lifelong resident of the Woodlawn, MD until moving to Seaford, DE in 2009. Mrs. Fowler graduated from Catonsville High School and in 1948 from the Baltimore Church Home and Hospital Nursing School. She worked most of her career as a Registered Nurse at James Lawrence Kernan Hospital in Baltimore where she worked in the Recovery Room until retirement in 1981. After retirement she enjoyed traveling with her husband in their motor home and they regularly spent the winter months in Davenport, FL. In her spare time she loved sewing, quilting, and all types of needle work. While a resident at Augsburg Lutheran Village from 2002 until 2009, she helped make over 400 quilts a year for relief efforts throughout the world. She enjoyed reading and preparing meals. She was devoted to her family and was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years James J. Fowler, Sr. in 1998 and her son James J. Fowler, Jr. in 1977. She is survived by her daughter Minda F. Ordway and her husband Lee A. of Bridgeville, DE; a granddaughter Erin Foxwell Owens and husband Joey of Port Deposit, MD; great-grandson Travis James Owens; and a brother Henry Louis F. Stirn of Ormond Beach, FL.
Graveside Services will be held on Thursday, September 15, 2011 at 2:00 PM, at Lakeview Memorial Park Cemetery, 2724 Liberty Road, Sykesville, MD. Arrangements by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Bridgeville, DE.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorial contributions be made to Salem United Methodist Church of Hebbville, 7509 Windsor Mill Road, Windsor Mill, MD 21244.
