Ruth M. Erickson's Obituary
Ruth Madeline Erickson, age 97, of Lewes, DE, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family after a brief illness on Wednesday, January 10, 2024. She was born on July 22, 1926 in Drifting, PA, daughter of the late Joseph and Alice Shubert.
After her 3 children started school, she worked as a bookkeeper for local businesses. She was one of the original members of the St. Edmonds Sodality in Rehoboth Beach, DE; the VFW 7447; and the Lewes Senior Center.
Ruth loved spending time on their pontoon boat fishing, crabbing, and clamming with her family. She proudly enjoyed watching her grandchildren play baseball from little league, High School, and college. Ruth was extremely proud of her grandson joining the Navy, following in his grandfather's footsteps. She enjoyed traveling, square dancing, playing cards, and working puzzles in the daily newspapers.
In addition to her parents, Ruth is preceded in passing by her loving husband of 68 years, Donald Erickson in 2019; her three brothers: Eugene, Raymond, and Donald Shubert; and her two sisters: Elenora Erickson and Geraldine Buckel. She is survived by her three children: Lorraine Erickson of Felton, DE, Donnie Erickson and his wife, Donna of Lewes, DE, and Rebecca Rohlfing and her husband, William of Harbeson, DE; her three grandsons: Jason Rohlfing of Georgetown, DE, DJ Erickson and David Erickson of Rehoboth Beach, DE.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, January 19, 2024 at 11:00 AM at St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church, 152 Tulip Drive, Lewes, DE 19958, where friends may call beginning at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow services at Henlopen Memorial Park, Milton, DE.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Ruth's name to Meals on Wheels of Lewes and Rehoboth, 32409 Lewes-Georgetown Highway, Lewes, DE 19958.
