Russell J. Woods' Obituary
Russell “Russ” J. Woods, 90, passed away quietly on November 21, 2014 at Cadbury at Lewes. Russ was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pa., the son of the late William J. Woods and Mae Woods (Lauer).
He served bravely and honorably with the U.S. Army Air Corps in the Pacific Theatre (New Guinea and the Philippines) during World War II, along with so many other members of the Greatest Generation. He was an electrician at the Arco Refinery (now BP) in South Philadelphia for 42 years. He married Matilda “Sissy” Rose in 1950, and they made a home in Collingdale, Pa., where they raised their only daughter, Debbie. He and Sissy retired to Spring Hill, Florida in 1982, and then Inverness, Florida, where they spent many happy years. In December 2010, he relocated to Cadbury Assisted Living to be near his daughter.
In addition to his parents, Russ was preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years, Matilda “Sissy” Rose Woods. He is survived by his daughter, Debbie Woods and her partner, Leslie Sinclair, two cousins and several nieces and nephews.
His family is deeply appreciative of the entire staff at Cadbury at Lewes for the care they provided, especially his friends in Assisted Living. Russ was fiercely independent and sharp as a tack. He suffered from Parkinson’s disease, but he was not defeated by it.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Russell’s memory to the Honor Flight Network at www.honorflight.org or Honor Flight, Inc., 300 E. Auburn Ave., Springfield, OH 45505-4703.
