Ruby O. Guidry's Obituary
Ruby O. Guidry, age 88, of Lewes, DE, passed away Monday, April 3, 2006, after battling Alzheimer's Disease. Mrs. Guidry was born in New Orleans, LA. She was a graduate of Kohn High School where she was a journalist for the school newspaper. Mrs. Guidry and her husband Nelson celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary this year.
She married Nelson Guidry in New Orleans and followed her husband to Washington, DC in the mid 1930's and from there to Adelphi, Maryland.
Ruby worked as a cartographic aid for the US Department of Agricullture, Soil Conservation Service, at Beltsville, MD until her retirement in 1978.
Ruby and Nelson moved to Lewes in 1985. She became active in the Meals on Wheels Program, Lewes Senior Center and continued her membership in the Unity Chapter Eastern Star, and Bethel United Methodist Church.
She was predeceased by her husband of 69 years by five hours on April 2, 2006. She is survived by her son, Philip N. Guidry of Dover, DE and her daughter Claudia Hakala of Severna Park, MD.
Funeral services will be held at Bethel United Methodist Church, 129 W. Fourth Street, Lewes, DE along with her husband's service on Thursday, April 6, 2006 at 11 AM with Rev. Jack Cohen will officiating; interment to follow at Bethel Methodist Cemetery . Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes, DE.
The family requests that memorial donations may be made to Johns Hopkins Alzheimer's Disease Research Center, 720 Rutland Avenue, Ross Building Room # 558, Baltimore, MD 21205.
