Roxana (Roxanne) Nelson of Rehoboth Beach passed away Thursday, December 15, 2022. Roxanne was born in Springfield IL to Leslie W. and Gertrude R. Knott. She grew up in Bethesda, MD and attended the University of Delaware where s Read Obituary
Roxanne was a wonderful person. There are not enough words to describe her. The world needs more Roxanne’s. She will be truly missed!
I met Roxanne traveling with Lennie and many UD/Delaware Tech students from Owens Campus to Stowe VT and the Poconos for ski adventures.
Our paths seldom crossed on the slopes due to the Nelson's advanced level. Off the slopes, good times created fond memories for all.
Roxanne's charm, poise and natural beauty were much appreciated at the Owens Campus winter fashion show "Saturday before the Season" followed by a similar Ocean City show. Both events were popular fundraisers for good causes.
Roxanne's many talents and contributions to students and community will be forever treasured.

It was an honor to know and work with this distinguished educator in the Burton Village community, but more importantly it was inspiring to see the bright smile and joy in her heart for her grandchildren that I had the honor to teach. We once spent a wonderful week on a bareboat cruise with Lenny and Roxanne. It was a perfect week in the Caribbean, and it was something we could not have done by ourselves. For example, Roxanne had volunteered to plan and provision a week’s worth of meals. At the end of a week of great meals, we docked with exactly two spoonfuls of peanut butter left in the bottom of a jar. So when the angels are looking for a job for Roxanne, I would suggest Chief Officer of Heavenly Provisioning. But anything would work. She could do it all. Miss you, Roxanne.
I first met Roxanne whilst volunteering with Sussex County Habitat for Humanity. When each family completed their sweat equity and finally closed on their home, Roxanne and her husband Lenny would bring the family a bookcase containing age-appropriate books. In later years I got to know Roxanne again volunteering with The Friends of Cape Henlopen State Park. Here Roxanne again excelled taking our fundraiser events to the next level with her decorating and organizational skills. Her running of the Wine, Beer & Cheese events will never be topped. Despite battling ill health in recent years, she always helped with events in any way she could and was extremely supportive of us lesser mortals trying to carry on her work. Always optimistic, always had a smile, never a mean word - a true bright light that will be sorely missed.

I met Roxanne at the U of Del in 1962 when I was a transfer student. Day 1 Roxanne 'barked' at me to do something as a freshman with beanie on before she knew I wasn't one. Our Harrington C 3rd floor group of ladies has dwindled now down to 5. Such a talented woman tho she never broadcast her many accomplishments. A classy lady who I miss.

I met Roxanne around 8 years ago through volunteering with her on the Read Aloud Delaware committee. She was so very talented and creative. All her ideas turned very day things into delightful objects that were enjoyed by many. Even through her prolonged illness, her fondness and loyalty to Delaware's children never diminished. "A life that touches others goes on forever."
