Rose DeDona's Obituary
In Loving Memory of Rose DeDona
With profound sadness and heartfelt love, we announce the passing of Rose DeDona, who left us peacefully on March 1, 2025, at the age of 95, after a brief illness. Born on January 21, 1930, in the Bronx, New York, Rose touched the lives of everyone she met with her warmth, kindness, and unwavering love for her family and faith.
Rose was married to her beloved husband, Henry DeDona Sr., for 70 wonderful years. Their bond was one of true devotion and lifelong companionship, and even after Henry's passing four years ago, their love remained an enduring legacy. Together, they created a family that blossomed with love, joy, and cherished memories.
For over six decades, Rose & Henry called Yonkers home, where she raised her family and shared countless moments of joy and laughter. Her love for her community, especially her neighborhood near McLean Avenue, was evident in her daily walks and deep connection to the people around her. In 2019, Rose & Henry moved to Rehoboth Beach, DE, where she enjoyed the peace and beauty of the ocean and the boardwalk, but she always remained a true city girl at heart, finding joy in the little things that made life beautiful.
Rose’s faith was at the center of everything she did. She was a devoted member of St. Barnabas Church in the Bronx for many years, where she contributed her time and talents. Whether performing in the choir for 50 years, teaching CCD classes, or participating in the St. Barnabas Players, Rose was always ready to give of herself in service to others. Her faith guided her, and her heart was always open to those in need.
A lover of life, Rose found joy in every moment, whether it was celebrating with family and friends at parties or sipping on a Black Russian, always with a smile on her face. Her family was her greatest joy, and she treasured every opportunity to spend time with her children, grandchildren, step-grandchildren, and step-great-grandchildren. Rose’s love was unconditional, and her presence will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
She is survived by her children: Henry DeDona Jr. (Johns Island, SC), Mitchell DeDona (Fayetteville, GA), Doreen Healy (Steven Healy) of Rehoboth Beach, DE, and MJ Green (Alan Green) of Kiawah Island, SC. Rose also leaves behind 9 grandchildren and step-grandchildren, 7 step-great-grandchildren, and countless nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved deeply and they truly treasured her.
A funeral mass in celebration of Rose’s life will be held on Saturday, April 5th, at 10 AM at St. Barnabas Church, 409 East 241st St., Bronx, NY.
While our hearts ache with her passing, we find comfort in knowing that Rose’s love and joy will continue to shine in the hearts of those who were blessed to know her. We will miss her more than words can express, but we are eternally grateful for the time we had with her and the love she shared so generously.
Rest in peace, dear Rose. Your spirit will live on in all of us. A life with love is a life that’s been lived.
