Rose Martha Carr's Obituary
Rose M. Carr, age 94, Lewes, DE passed away on Thursday, November 27, 2014. She was born on September 2, 1920 in Luzerne, PA, daughter of the late Joseph and Minnie (Bago) Falbo.
Rose grew up on a farm where she would learn to cook and sew at an early age. She made some of her clothing when she was in school and continued to do so in her working years. She enjoyed a lifelong career with Bell System, retiring after 22 dedicated years. Following her retirement in 1980, she relocated to Delaware where she would become involved in many organizations.
Rose became a long time member of the Lewes Senior Center and Cape Henlopen Senior Center where she served on the Board of Directors for many years. She was an active member of AARP Chapter 3543, Village Improvement Association of Rehoboth Beach, Midway Lions Club, Beebe Auxiliary, Delmarvalous Quilt Guild of Georgetown, Ocean Waves of Lewes and a former member of Kiwanis Club of Rehoboth Beach. She was a life member of Telephone Pioneers of America and Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary. She was also a long time member of the Rehoboth Art League Theatre Group that became the Dupont Theatre playhouse in the Dupont Hotel in Wilmington, DE.
Rose was an active volunteer who enjoyed spending many hours at Beebe Hospital, All Saints Thrift Shop and New Life Thrift Shop. Every Tuesday, Rose volunteered quilting at the Cape Henlopen Senior Center. In 2009, she celebrated a 20 year membership with the Retired & Senior Volunteer Program. She was also a parishioner at St. Edmond Catholic Church where she was a member of the Prayer Shawl Ministry.
Rose was a talented seamstress who did all kinds of needle work, her hands were never still. In her later years, Rose’s first love became quilting although she also liked crocheting and knitting. She entered several of her wall hangings and quilts in the Harrington Fair where she won many Blue ribbons for her work. She kept many of her wall hanging pieces on her walls in her home. During her spare time Rose enjoyed taking classes in the Southern Delaware Academy of Lifelong Learning Center. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
In addition to her parents, Rose was preceded in death by her husband, Steven Carr, in 1998, her three sisters, May Rowland, Mary Lombardi and Emilia Heflin and a brother, Anthony Falbo. She is survived by her brother, Richard Falbo and his wife Patricia of Canton, OH, her sister, Shirley Gero of Canyon Lake, CA and many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, December 3, 2014, at 10:30 AM, at St. Edmond Catholic Church, 409 King Charles Avenue, Rehoboth Beach, DE. Interment will be private.
