Romaine Evalene Hoke's Obituary
Romaine Evalene Hoke, age 100 of Rehoboth Beach, DE, formerly of Abbottstown, entered peacefully into God's eternal care April 21, 2020 at Harrison Senior Living, Georgetown, DE. She was born on December 30, 1919 in Hanover, PA, daughter of the late Hamilton and Ida (Geiman) Stambaugh.
Romaine was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Abbottstown. She loved spending time with family, friends and pets (especially her cats). She also enjoyed playing cards, sewing, gardening, and shopping as well as all aspects of farm life. Romaine was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, always positive and caring, and in her words, "had a wonderful life." She was loved by many and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
In addition to her parents, Romaine was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 68 years, Harry Ellsworth Hoke in 2010; her brother, Leroy Stambaugh; and her son-in-law, Paul Meckley. She is survived by her son, Steven Hoke (Suzanne) of East Waterford, PA; her daughter, Adrienne Meckley of Rehoboth Beach, DE; her grandchildren: Steven Hoke II (Melissa), John Hoke (Virginia), Michael Hoke (Jenni), Jeffrey Hoke (Fanny), Kevin Meckley (Michelle) and Michele Gorham (Tom); her 14 great-grandchildren; and her numerous nieces and nephews..
Services will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Romaine's memory to St. John's Lutheran Church, 100 East Water St., Abbottstown, PA 17301, or a charity of your choice.
