Roger D. Tomlinson's Obituary
Roger D. Tomlinson, age 59, of Lewes, DE, formerly of Newark, DE, passed away on Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at Anne Arundel Medical Center, Annapolis, MD. He was born in Pennington Gap, VA on October 10, 1953 son of the late William “T-Buck” Tomlinson and Eva Bernice (Flanigan) Tomlinson.
Roger graduated from William Penn High School in New Castle, DE in 1972. After many years working in various positions from boiler maker to HVAC technician, he started a career in building management. He worked several years for Binswanger Management Corporation where he managed the Hercules Building in Wilmington, DE. He transitioned over to MBNA America (now Bank of America) as VP of Engineering. Most recently, Mr. Tomlinson was consulting for Motorola's Homeland Security contract as a consulting specialist for Commdex Consulting.
Roger was a member of the Delmarva "HOGS" (Harley Owners Group #0616) a motorcycle club in which he enjoyed riding in numerous charity events. He loved fishing, golfing, boating and driving on the beach at Cape Henlopen State Park for summer get-togethers. He enjoyed frequently attending car and bike shows, cruising in his Corvette and riding through the countryside on his Harley, but most of all spending quiet days on the beach with his girls. Roger could be heard telling stories and cracking jokes from far away, but his breakfast could be smelled from even further away; he was the "Sunday Breakfast King"! Roger was a devoted and loving husband, father, god-father, son, brother, uncle and dear friend who will be missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, Roger was preceded in death by his nephew Jason Moore in 2004. He is survived by his wife of 39 years Sharon Jubb Tomlinson and two daughters Emily and Jenne Tomlinson of Lewes, DE; three brothers: William Tomlinson of Somerset, PA, David Tomlinson of Richmond, VA, and Tommy Tomlinson and his wife Ellen of Rising Sun, MD; three sisters: Katy Moore and her husband Jake of Rising Sun, MD, Sherene Marshall of Jordanville, NY, and Sheila Faye Carey and her husband Richard of Middletown, DE; his father and mother in-law, James and Dee Jubb of Rehoboth Beach, DE; and numerous in-laws, aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, and dear friends from everywhere. Roger is also survived by his faithful companions, three Jack Russell Terriers: Eliot, Harley, and Henry and last but not least Kevin the cat, boss of the household.
A Service to Celebrate the Life of Mr. Tomlinson will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2013, at 11:00AM at Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE, where the family will receive friends beginning at 9:00AM. Interment will be private.
