Roger S. Pool's Obituary
Roger S. Pool, age 84, of Rehoboth Beach and Wilmington, DE passed away peacefully with his family at his side at his residence on Thursday, July 12, 2012. He was the son of the late Zadoc A. and Rose (Dougherty) Pool. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Roger S. (Roggie) Pool, Jr.
Mr. Pool graduated from Salesianum ("Sallies") High School in Wilmington, DE and he was truly a "Salesian Gentleman". He graduated from the United States Merchant Marine Academy, Kings Point, N.Y. and then served in the Navy during the latter part of WWII. He enjoyed a successful career as an engineer for the DuPont Company, retiring 1986 after completing a project in San Francisco - the highlight of his career. He then moved to Rehoboth Beach where he proudly served as City Commissioner in the early 1990’s.
He was a member of VFW Post 7447 and American Legion Post #5, both of Rehoboth Beach. He was a member of St. Edmond’s Catholic Church and a long time Trustee of Old Drawyer's Church, Odessa, DE. Mr. Pool will be remembered for his quick wit and the passion in his heart, mostly especially for the Catholic Sisters. He will be truly missed by many whose lived he touched, including "Smokey" his favorite feline.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Joyce (Brainard) Pool, a daughter, Michele J. Pool and her partner Terry of Eatontown, NJ, one brother, Zadoc Pool and his wife Joan of Dover, DE and several nieces and nephews. His extended family includes Joyce’s daughter Donna West, her husband Fred and grandchildren Grant and Margot West.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Edmond Catholic Church, 409 King Charles Avenue, Rehoboth Beach, DE on Thursday, July 26, 2012 at 11:00 am The family will greet friends at the church beginning at 10:00 AM.
Interment with full military honors will be held, Thursday, August 2, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Old Drawyer's Church Cemetery, Route 13 South, Odessa, DE, 19730.
