Rodney Edward Hance's Obituary
Rodney Edward Hance, age 87, of Lewes, DE, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, July 28, 2022. He was born on August 16, 1934, in Mutual. MD, the son of the late James and Hazel (Hutchins) Hance.
Rodney was born and raised in Calvert County, growing up on the family sprawling tobacco farm. After graduating high school, in 1955, he married his sweetheart, Elizabeth Anne Gott, and they would spend sixty-seven happily married years together. From 1957 until 1959, Rodney honorably served his country in the United States Army. Upon returning from the Army, Rodney came back to Calvert County where he would enjoy a long and fulfilling career with the Parks and Recreation department and serving as a Deputy Sheriff.
Rodney won the Maryland State Jousting Tournament, a feat that he was particularly proud of. Rodney’s love of the water drew he and Anne to Delaware’s Eastern shore, where they would make their home at Bay Crossing in Lewes, DE. He made many wonderful friends there and was affectionately known as the neighborhood “go-to” guy. He was an active member of the Elks Club and in his spare time he loved to go “crabbing” always hoping to catch the ultimate feast. Above all, the time spent with those he held dear was what he most cherished. He was a loving and devoted husband, brother, uncle, and friend. Rodney will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Helen Goss , Doris Denton, and Barbara Curry; and his brother, Marcellus Hance. He is survived by his beloved wife Elizabeth Anne Hance of Lewes, DE; his sister, Linda Nolan ;and numerous nieces and nephews.
