Roberta Catherine Maykrantz's Obituary

Roberta Catherine Maykrantz, nee Walsh, age 82, of Seaford, DE, passed away at Delaware Hospice Center in Milford, DE on July 20, 2019. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Walter Maykrantz; three children, Kellie Bergen (Edwin), Glenda Roberts and George Maykrantz; five grandchildren: Erin Rice (Judy), George Roberts (Camilla), Rhiannon Combs (Daniel), Danielle Molnar (Ethan) and William Wallace; and three step-grandchildren: Edwin R. Bergen (Holly), James Bergen (Nicole), and John Bergen (Sabrina). She is the great grandmother, GIGI, to 19 blessings who have added joy to her life. Janice Williams (Michael) of Smyrna, DE, who is loving referred to as her baby sister, also shares her memory. Other surviving family includes nieces and nephews: Colleen Jacobs, Kathy Moore, Kevin Patrick, and Matthew Walsh.
Roberta is predeceased by her parents, Robert and Orla Walsh and sister, Dorothy Patrick, brother in law, George Patrick, and niece, Laura Patrick.
After graduation from Chamberlain High School in Washington, DC, Roberta enjoyed a career in the printing industry which included National Publishing Co, McCall’s Printing, Judd and Detweiler, Shenandoah Valley Press, and Editors Press. Her love for music spreads through collecting 78’s and 45’s to singing karaoke, the glee club and church choir. Blue Grass, especially The Country Gentleman, and Hank Snow were her favorites. Between her exposure to printing playbills and love of music, taking her children on outings to the Kennedy Center for a treat was a life highlight. Always joiners, Walter and Roberta belong to camping clubs including The Road Runners who had their own live band and the Masonic camping club, and the Square Riggers. Redskin football and NASCAR racing were also family traditions.
Roberta served as secretary for many years for the Seaford Elks Lodge and was their ENF Chair. She has had 50 years in the American Legion Auxiliary, most in Cheverly, MD, Post 108, recently at William T Spooner, Post 17, in Lewes, DE.
Roberta served as a choir member, created the church directory and newsletter and was co-chair for the SPARC at Grace U.M.C for 15 years. She served as an officer for the local AARP chapter as well as doing taxes for AARP members.
A celebration of life will be held at Grace United Methodist Church, 7 S. King Street Georgetown, DE 19947 at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, July 24, 2019. A luncheon and time for visiting will follow in the Marvel building at the church.
