Roberta "Bobbie" Ann Redefer's Obituary
Roberta "Bobbie" Ann Redefer, 64, passed away peacefully on June 27, 2026, after a short but courageous battle with breast cancer.
Born on August 7, 1961, in Washington, D.C., Bobbie was a 1979 graduate of La Reine High School in Prince George's County, Maryland. She went on to earn her nursing degree from Marymount University and later received her Master of Science in Nursing from Salisbury University.
Bobbie dedicated her life to caring for others through nursing and education. She began her nursing career at Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C., before joining the Intensive Care Unit at Beebe Healthcare. Her passion for mentoring future nurses led her to the Beebe School of Nursing, where she served as an instructor for 13 years. She later continued her career as a school nurse for the Cape Henlopen School District's Ninth Grade Campus and the Sussex Consortium before becoming the District Director of Nursing for the Sussex County School District, a position she held until her retirement in 2024.
A woman of deep Christian faith, Bobbie was a devoted member of St. Edmond Catholic Church. She was also an active member of the Dewey Beach Lions Club, where she found great joy in serving her community. Bobbie loved everything about Dewey Beach and was deeply connected to the town she proudly called home. She was a passionate Washington Redskins fan and a longtime Washington Capitals season ticket holder with her best friend Lori Voss. Above all else, her greatest joy was being "GiGi" to her grandchildren, whom she loved beyond measure and cherished every opportunity to spend time with.
Bobbie is survived by her loving daughter, Leigh Ann Redefer Winslow (Thurman Lee); her son, John Edgar Redefer IV (Kirstin Anne); her beloved grandchildren, Olivia Morris Winslow, John Edgar Redefer V, Kennedy James Winslow, and Brooks Allen Redefer; her sisters-in-law, Beth Caruso (John) and Juli Mills (Bob), Vanessa Redefer; her brothers-in-law, Christopher Redefer (Cindy) and Justin Redefer; as well as many extended family members, dear friends, colleagues, former students, and countless lives she touched throughout her career.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John "TJ" Edgar Redefer III; her father, Robert Stanley Goss; her mother, Edna Ruth Goss; and her brother, James Robert Goss.
