Robert Joseph Nowicki
1931-2010
Bob Nowicki, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away in the loving care of his family on October 25, 2010.
Born in St. Paul, Minnesota to the late Frank and Rose Nowicki, Bob was one of 11 children. He grew up with a love of music and playing the piano. He had a passion for boxing, becoming a golden gloves boxer in his youth. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed all sports, especially racquet ball, playing until the age of 77.
He met his future wife Bernice Palivoda, at a USO dance while stationed in Delaware during his service in the U.S. Air Force. Bob received his Business Degree from Goldey Beacom College . He retired from State Distributors, as general manager, and later became a realtor.
He was a very active member of St. Edmond’s Catholic Church, Grand Knight of Knights of Columbus, Alderman of Dewey Beach, volunteer for Meals on Wheels, and a member of the Lions Club. He was proud to conduct the Christmas chorus at the Cape Henlopen Senior Center.
Most of all, Bob will be remembered as a kind and generous family man who taught his children not by words, but by the exemplary manner in which he lived his daily life.
Bob is survived by his wife of 56 years Bernice Nowicki, his daughters, Robin Nowicki, Karen Parisi and husband Bill, Diane Chase and husband Bill, Lorane Clark and husband Robert, his sons, Jeffrey Nowicki and wife Chris and Glenn Nowicki and fiancé Maureen. Leaving to cherish his memory are grandchildren Alex, Krista, Natalie, Jake, Aubrey and Lauren. He is also survived by his sisters Carol Olzniak and Mary Jo Monsour and brothers Theodore Nowicki and Eugene Nowicki. He was preceded in death by his sister Geraldine Meyers, and brothers Richard, Raymond, Vincent, Donald, James and Leonard Nowicki.
The family extends its gratitude to the Compassionate Care nurses and aides who helped care for Bob during his illness.
Friends and relatives are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, October 29, 2010 at 11:00 AM at St. Edmond’s Catholic Church, 409 Kings Charles Avenue, Rehoboth Beach, DE. Friends may call at the church on Friday morning from 10:00-11:00 am. Burial will be private at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro, DE.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to Pancreatic Cancer Research, The Lustgarten Foundation, 1111 Stewart Avenue, Bethpage, NY or Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Marple Commons, 2004 Sproul Road, Broomall, PA 19008.
