Robert Daniel Mitchell's Obituary
Robert Mitchell, age 87 of Rehoboth Beach, DE, passed away on March 27, 2018 at the Delaware Hospice Center, in Milford, DE. He was born on December 9, 1930 in Laurel, DE, son of the late Roy and Maude (Carmean) Mitchell.
Bob had a long and distinguished career with the Delaware State Police as trooper, detective, and ultimately Staff Captain in charge of the state’s Drug and Vice Special Units. Following retirement, he worked for the family business, Mitchell’s Furniture, and also owned restaurants The Rose & Crown in Lewes, and 1776 Steakhouse in Rehoboth Beach.
Throughout his life he was active in his church, in many organizations, and in the communities in which he lived - including Laurel, Delaware, Coral Springs and Palm City, Florida, and Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. Bob was a gifted athlete, talented singer, avid golfer, reader, cook, and best life-of-the-party friend, but definitely his most cherished and enjoyed roles were those as husband, Dad and BobBob.
Bob will lovingly be remembered and greatly missed by his wife of 67 years, Phyllis (Ray) Mitchell; his daughter Judy Mitchell Shaw and her husband Skip; his two grandchildren Kate Shaw (Jake) and Michael Shaw; his brother Roy Mitchell and sister-in-law Peggy; and many special nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Martin Mitchell and sister Mary Ellen Dutton.
A Memorial Service, celebrating a life well-lived, will be held Saturday, March 31, 2018, at 11:00 AM, at All Saints Episcopal Church, 18 Olive, Avenue, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971, where the family will greet friends at the church prior to the service beginning at 10:00 AM.
