Robert Dale Matthews' Obituary
Robert “Bob” D. Matthews, age 79 of Bridgeville, DE, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 19, 2023, at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, in Philadelphia, PA. He was born on April 21, 1943, in Philadelphia, son of the late Dr Oscar J. and Mrs. Laura P. Matthews.
Bob graduated from Lafayette College, Class of 1965, as a mechanical engineer. He spent his entire career with Delmarva Power, retiring in 1998 after many dedicated years.
Bob was an avid boater and enjoyed all time spent on the water. He was a past Commodore of the Wicomico Yacht Club and in his retirement served on various residential and financial boards, helping guide his communities. Above all, Bob cherished time with those he held most dear. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Loved by many, he will be genuinely missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Bob is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, JoAnn Matthews of Bridgeville; his son, Dr. Marc R. Matthews (Allison) of Rochester, MN; and his four grandchildren.
A celebration of Bob’s life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to Union United Methodist Church Food Pantry, 2 North Laws Street, Bridgeville, DE 19933.
