Robert D. Leitton's Obituary
Robert David Leitton, Sr., age 84, of Lewes, DE, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 28, 2006, from Beebe Medical Center in Lewes. Mr. Leitton was born March 1, 1922 in Linden, NJ and moved with his parents to Connecticut in 1932.
Mr. Leitton served in the 3rd Armored Spearhead Division, Division of Artillery Command from October 1943 to November 1945. He was the recipient of the the following honors: Good Conduct Medal, European-African-Middle East Campaign Medal (Silver Star), WW II Victory Medal, Army Occupation Medal (German Clasp), Distinguished Unit Citation with Cluster, and the Belgium Fourregere Medal. Mr. Leitton was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. He was a member of the Danbury and Brookfield Assembly of God Church in Connecticut for 38 years. He served on the Board for 28 years and started the first gospel radio program Gospel Time in 1954 from Danbury, CT. He also served as a Sunday School Teacher, the Church Treasurer, Youth Ministry and the Bus Ministry. Mr. Leitton was a sales representative for H. J. Heinz & Company from 1949 to 1963 and for Vilking Wire from 1964 to 1985 when he retired.
Mr. Leitton married the late Kathleen R. (Layden) Leitton in March 1942. He is survived by two children: the Rev. Robert D. Leitton, Jr. and his wife Elaine of Dover, DE and Kathleen Kessler and her husband Dean of Quarryville, PA; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Monday, April 3, 11 AM at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE with Pastors Joseph Robinson and Daniel Mariano co-officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to services. Interment with military honors will follow at Henlopen Memorial Park, Milton, DE.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Delaware Hospice, 20167 Office Circle, Georgetown, DE 19947.
