Robert B. Hiltebeitel's Obituary
Robert B. Hiltebeitel, age 85, of Ocean View, DE, formerly of Rehoboth Beach, DE and Spring City, PA, passed away suddenly on Monday, January 23, 2012 at his residence. He was born in Spring City, PA, on Saturday, May 15, 1926 son of the late Wayne and Miriam (Wagner) Hiltebeitel. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Susan Hiltebeitel (04/01/2001) and two brothers, Ronald and Merrill Hiltebeitel.
Mr. Hiltebeitel was raised in Spring City; he entered the U.S. Army and later transferred to the Air Force attaining the rank of Lieutenant Colonel where he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross Medal. In addition, he was a Federal Inspector for 30 years with the Department of Defense which required several relocations around the country for him and his family. He was also the Past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus in Spring City. While serving with the Boy Scouts of America, he earned the Silver Beaver Medal for his distinguished service and he was recognized with the Order of the Arrow Medal which is scoutings National Honor Society.
After moving to Rehoboth Beach in 1998, he volunteered with the Beebe Medical Center and Casa San Francisco. When he was not working, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, guns, archery, target shooting and other outdoor activities. After reloating to Ocean View six months ago, he became active in the Bible Study at Ocean View Church of Christ.
He is survived by his four children: Pamela S. Hopkins and her husband Ronald of Rehoboth Beach, Cecilia A. Ireland and her husband James of Newark, DE, Deborah L. Foxx and her husband Robert C. of Lewes and Robert W. Hiltebeitel of Rehoboth Beach; seven grandchildren: Lori Maringina of Upper Darby, PA, Edwin Miller, Jr. of Birdsboro, PA, Jennifer McQueen of Raleigh, NC, Samuel L. Ash, Jr. of Phoenixville, PA, Melissa Ash of Newark, DE, Robin Foxx of Douglasville, PA and Robert Foxx, Jr. of Lewes, DE; seven great-grandchildren: Colin and Madison Miller of Birdsboro, PA, Kalisa McQueen of Raleigh, NC, and Victoria, Jared, Olivia and Leo Ash, all of Phoenixville, PA; one sister, Betty Neborak and her husband John of Pottstown, PA; and his companion, Doris Hurley of Frankford, DE.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, January 27, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE where friends may call beginning at 10:00 AM at the funeral home. Interment with full military honors will follow at Henlopen Memorial Park, 28787 Lockerman Road, Milton, DE.
