Robert J. Hartman, 77, of Lewes, Delaware, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 26 at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford, Delaware.
He was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and moved to Northern Kentucky, where he grew up with his 5 brothers and sister. He served as a Catholic missionary in Africa, middle school guidance counselor in Howard County, MD, and hospital chaplain in Columbia, MD. He retired to Lewes, DE with his wife, Katherine, where he enjoyed participating in local clubs and activities, attending The Gull House in Lewes, and singing with local Barbershop quartets. His many friends will remember his joyful spirit, smiling face, singing, dancing, and harmonica playing.
He was a past member of St. John's parish in Columbia, MD, and a member of St. Edmond's Church in Lewes, DE. He lived his life serving God and caring for others.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Katherine Hartman, his daughter and son-in-law, Michele and Robert Gay and their daughters, Sophia, Marie, and Josephine, his son and daughter-in-law Christopher and Tina Hartman, and their daughters, Emma, Eleyna, Julia, and Isabella, his brothers, Charles, Reverend Ralph Hartman, Lawrence Hartman, Reverend Raymond Hartman, sisters-in-law, Maria and Mary Hartman, as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.
In addition to his partents, Charles and Clara (Larbig) Hartman, he was preceded in death by his sister, Sister Rosemary Hartman and his brother Fred Hartman.
Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Tuesday March 9, 2010 at 11:00 AM at St. Edmond's Catholic Church, 409 King Charles Avenue, Rehoboth Beach, DE
Burial will follow the Mass at St. Peter's Cemetery, Pilotown Rd., Lewes, DE.
Friends may call at the Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE on Monday evening March 8, 2010 from 5PM - 8PM where prayers will begin at 7:45 PM.
Memorial may be made to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963 or to the Gull House, 38149 Terrace Road, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971
