Robert C. Foxx's Obituary
Robert C. Foxx, as known as “Captain Bob,” of Lewes, DE, formerly of Pottstown, PA passed away on Saturday, February 25, 2012, at Beebe Medical Center, Lewes, surrounded by his family, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Pottstown, PA on September 13, 1946, son of the late Robert and Elizabeth Jane (Fritz) Foxx.
Mr. Foxx graduated from the Pottstown Senior High School and enlisted in the United States Army; he was honorably discharged from the service after two tours of duty in Vietnam. Following the military, he worked 16 years with the Pottstown School District in the Maintenance and Grounds Department. Mr. Foxx also worked for several years at the Gudebrod Inc. in Pottstown as a Braiding Supervisor and Salesman. In1997 he was able to pursue his lifelong affair with water and received his Boat Captains License. For several years, Mr. Foxx operated his own private boat charter, “I’m Foxxy.” He then took on his ultimate assignment as “Big Captain” of the “Sea Gypsy V” for the Pirates of Lewes in Lewes Harbor – he loved the role of “Big Captain.”
Mr. Foxx was a long time member of various organizations in Pottstown area including: The Empire Hook & Ladder Fire Company, Masonic Stichter Lodge No. 254, Lodge Council Chapter consistory in Valley of Reading, PA; in Lewes he supported the Masonic Jefferson Lodge No. 15, the National Association of Charter Boat Operators (NACO), Maritime Consortium, and the “DPS” of Lewes Harbor Marina.
Mr. Foxx was a man with many varied interests some of which were tinkering with trains, wood working in his shop, hunting, motorcycles, collecting guns, fishing, and even playing the drums for 20 plus years with “Just Friends.” He loved to tell stories and had a quick wit but above all else, he loved his family. He was an unwavering husband, father, best friend, and Captain who lived life to its fullest; he will be missed by all who knew him.
Mr. Foxx is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Debbie L. (Hiltebeitel) Foxx, also known as “Deborah,” when Captain Bob wanted to get her attention; his son, Bobby Foxx of Lewes; his daughter, Robin Foxx of Pottstown, PA; his toy poodle, Max; his special Army Friend, Rich Hess of Hannah City, IL; and his two childhood friends Denny Elliott and Jack Durang, both of Pottstown, PA.
