Robert Francis Burns' Obituary
Robert F. (Bob) Burns, age 80, went to be with Our Lord on March 3, 2011 surrounded by his loving family. Bob was born on December 17, 1930 in Wilmington, DE., son of the late Mike and Elizabeth Duncan Burns. He was a graduate of Wilmington High School in 1949 and was a recognized self-employed paperhanger for 50 years in DE. He was previously a member of the Holy Spirit Church, Holy Name Society and was currently a parishioner of St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church in Lewes. He served 6 years in the Air Force during the Korean War. He was part of the DeLaWarr High School Board for a 4 year term. He successfully operated Cool Springs Bed and Breakfast for 13 years. He also gave time to St. Vincent DePaul Society where he gave back to the community.
Bob's hobbies were fishing, crabbing and an avid interest in hummingbirds. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and adored his time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Bob will be sadly missed by his wife Charlotte, his children, family and friends. Everyone Bob met became an instant friend.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Joan MacDonald and son Patrick J. Burns and his sisters, Patricia Woerner and Kathleen Jarrell.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 35 years Charlotte Burns; daughter Bobbi Berry; sons: Michael Duckworth (Linda), Michael Burns, Kevin Burns (Connie), Joe Duckworth, Timothy Burns (Susan), Glenn Duckworth (Debbie), Allan Duckworth and Brian Burns (Jenn). He is also survived by 16 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and two sisters: Marie Tabasso (Wally) and Elizabeth Jones (Mike).
A visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday, March 7, 2011 at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Hwy. Lewes, DE from 6p.m. - 8p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday March 8, 2011 at 12 Noon at Resurrection Parish, 3000 Videre Drive, Wilmington, DE, where friends may call from 10:45 AM to 11:45 AM at the church. Interment will follow at Cathedral Cemetery, 2400 Lancaster Avenue, Wilmington, DE.
