Robert V Boland's Obituary
Robert V. Boland, Sr. “Bob”, age 95 of Lewes, DE, passed away on Saturday, October 14, 2023, at his home. He was born on March 10, 1928, in Englewood, NJ, son of the late Harold and Charlotte Boland.
Bob was a proud veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy as a Seaman, Second Class, in WWII until 1946. He was then drafted into the U.S. Army in the Korean War, where he was stationed in Germany, as a private in the tanks division until 1957. When Bob returned, he married the love of his life, Lena, on May 30, 1953, and moved to Rochelle Park, NJ to raise his family. He worked for National Sign Company, Hackensack and Dimensional Communications, Northvale, NJ.
When retired in 1993, Bob and Lee moved to Lewes, Delaware, where he continued working part time at the local Super Fresh for several years in the produce department. Always strong in faith, he volunteered as an usher at St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church in Lewes. Bob also belonged to the American Legion for over 56 years and joined the Cape Henlopen Elks Club
#2540 where he was awarded Elk of the Year, Citizen of the Year, and Distinguished Citizen for his volunteer work in the community. Above all, Bob cherished time spent with those he held most dear. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, and friend who will be genuinely missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his brothers: Harold, Jr. (Marie) and Raymond; and his sister, Marion Craun (Noel). He is survived by his beloved wife of 70 years, Lena N. (Haak) Boland; his son, Robert Boland Jr., (Michelle) of South Plainfield, NJ; his daughter Sandra Pilewski (Steve) of West Milford, NJ; his grandsons: Bryan (Bonnie Radmore) of Wharton, NJ and Kyle Pilewski of West Milford, NJ.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 2, 2023, at 11:00 AM, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE, where friends may visit beginning at 10:00 AM. A committal service will follow at 1:00 PM at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro, DE.
