Robert "Bob" Louis Thompson's Obituary
Robert “Bob” Louis Thompson, age 83, of Ocean View, DE passed away on Saturday, February 17, 2018, at Heartland Hospice House in Wilmington, DE. He was born on Wednesday, March 21, 1934 in Wilmington, DE, son of the late Nathaniel and Evelyn (Booth) Thompson.
Mr. Thompson honorably served his country in the US Army as a tank commander during the Korean War. Following his service, he started his career as a plumber pipefitter. He continued his career at General Motors in Wilmington retiring after 30 years as a maintenance supervisor. Mr. Thompson was a member of various organizations including: Eagles #4528 in Ocean View, American Legion, VFW and the Moose. In his free time, he enjoyed gardening, fishing and boating. Most of all, he enjoyed travel; from his winters in Florida to his future retirement home in Hawaii. Mr. Thompson was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and dear friend who will be missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Thompson was preceded in death by his first wife, Lorraine Shirley Thompson; his second wife, Jane (Handlin) Thompson; his daughter, Donna Lorraine Thompson. He is survived by his two daughters: Cheryl Rohm of New Castle, DE, and Lauren Jones of Wilmington, DE; his four step children: Joanne Thielemann and her husband Bill of Wilmington, DE, Eugene Handlin, Jr. and his wife Laurie of Ocean View, DE, Patty Taylor and her husband Fred of Ocean View, DE, and Robert Handlin and his wife Linda of Newark, DE; nine grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.
