Robert "Bob" Allen Book's Obituary
Robert (Bob) Allen Book, 75, went home to be with the Lord on January 7, 2022.
Born in Lancaster, PA on April 19, 1946, Bob, and his family moved to Rehoboth Beach, DE in 1950 where he grew up on Rodney St. in his early years. He spent a good deal of time at the beach and boardwalk where he worked in the summer. When he was not working, he could be found at the beach or tinkering with cars which he enjoyed seeing just how fast they could go.
In the summer of 1964, he met his future wife and love of his life, Linda, on the boardwalk as she was vacationing with her family from Malvern, PA. After a few years of driving back and forth to Pennsylvania to visit Linda, he decided it was more practical to ask her to marry him and they were married in the summer of 1966.
Shortly after becoming a newlywed, Bob started the successful business, “Robert A. Book Painting Contractor.” Over 37 years in business, Bob garnered hundreds of clients and created many friendships along the way with them. Along with this business, for 10 years he was a General Contractor for Kingsberry Homes on the Delmarva Peninsula. Bob also served in the US Army reserve for 6 years.
In 1970, his son Rob was born. For Rob, his dad is lovingly remembered as someone who loved spending time with the family on vacations, on the boat fishing, at the Little League Park, collecting baseball cards or many other various adventures they may have gone on. But most of all he is remembered as a hard-working role model of how to be a young man, a husband and a father.
Bob will be fondly remembered by his friends and family for the homes he built in the Rehoboth and Lewes area with well-manicured landscapes and gardens he loved to spend time caring for. Bob was a long-time member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Rehoboth Beach, a former member of the Rehoboth Beach Lions Club and the National Rifle Association.
Bob is survived by his wife of 54 years, Linda (Hannum) Book of Lewes; his son, Rob Book (Kara)of Milford, DE; his 2 granddaughters: Gabrielle and Camille; as well as his brother, John Conrad of Milford.
He is preceded in death by his father, John C. Book of Lancaster, PA; his mother Margaret E. Book of Rehoboth Beach; his numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins; and his brother-in-law and great friend, Gary Hannum of Glenmore, PA.
In lieu of flowers the family kindly asks that you remember Bob by contributing in his name to the St. Jude’s Children Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or the Brandywine Valley SPCA, Sussex Chapter, BVSPCA, 22918 DuPont Boulevard, Georgetown, DE 19947.
Funeral services will be on Tuesday, January 18, 2022, at 11:00 AM at Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes, DE 19958 where friends may call beginning at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at Cool Spring Presbyterian Cemetery, 28843 Log Cabin Hill Road, Lewes, DE 19958.
