Robert Charles Barry's Obituary
Robert Charles Barry 1935-2024
Born in Schenectady, Bob grew up in NY, joined the Air Force and graduated from the University of Maryland, later enrolling in Harvard University’s management training program.
He had a lengthy career in the CIA with postings in Japan, Geneva, and Washington. Bob met his wife, Vivian, in 1964 while on a company vacation in Dewey Beach and they were married in 1966. They settled in Virginia and would vacation in Dewey Beach before retiring to Lewes where they both lived out the rest of their years.
Bob’s passions included good food and conversation, investments, animal rescue, and meteorology. Even after retiring and becoming an inn keeper and starting the non-profit “Historic Lewes Cat Society” with Vivian, he always started each conversation with the weather. He had a big heart and took in strays of all sorts over the years. He was generous and giving, always willing to help out as best he could. Quick with a handshake, he could talk to anyone that would listen.
One of his last wishes was to live longer than his mother who died at 89 and a half. Sadly, he died a few months shy of that. He was predeceased by Vivian and many, many dogs, and cats. He is survived by his niece Lorri, her husband Greg Cook and their children, Olena and Gabriel, as well as his niece Kim Savage and her children Lorryn, Hillary, and Grant, all of Massachusetts.
