Robert J. Asmussen Jr.'s Obituary
Robert James Asmussen Jr., also known as Bob and “Wrench,” passed away on April 20, 2023, at the age of 74. He passed away peacefully at Beebe Hospital with his wife by his side.
Bob was born on December 31, 1948, in Washington DC, and he is the son of the late Robert and Ruth Asmussen. He graduated from Bladensburg High School and then took additional classes at George Meany Center for Labor. He married his wife Kathleen (Kathy) Asmussen on July 8, 1978, and lived with her in Riverdale Maryland. Bob worked for more than 30 years as a mechanic repairing automobiles and trucks and held numerous ASE certifications for automotive technician skills. For over 20 years he volunteered as a CYO-athletic coach for basketball, football, and baseball. After retirement, he and his wife moved to Lewes, Delaware, to live near the beach.
Bob’s hobbies were riding and repairing motorcycles, fishing, and boating on Chesapeake Bay, and attending live music events. He was a Knight of Columbus (3rd degree) and involved in charity motorcycle events.
Bob was preceded in death by his cherished son Robert William Asmussen. Bob will be greatly missed by his wife, Kathleen Asmussen of Lewes, Delaware; his daughter Kristen (Jonathan) Marin of Appleton, Wisconsin; and his daughter-in-law Lisa Asmussen of Martinsburg, West Virginia. He will be fondly remembered by his grandchildren including Hailey Jones (Gabe), Kaleb Asmussen, Bethany Dean (Eddie), Christianna Nigh (Kris), Nicolas Szabo, Robert Jackson Asmussen, Cameron Asmussen, and Caroline Marin.
Bob’s life will be celebrated with a memorial service at a later date.
