Robert A. Macre's Obituary
Robert A. Macre, age 70, of Lewes, DE, formerly of NJ, passed away on Friday, May 9, 2014, at Beebe Healthcare. Born in Bayonne, NJ, son of the late Joseph and Mary Macre, he was the youngest of 5 children.
Robert graduated from Bayonne High School in 1961 and received his BA in Accounting from Rutgers University in 1972. As an ambitious young man, he began his career as an accounting clerk and through dedication and perseverance he advanced to the position of CFO, prior to retiring to his dream home in Lewes, DE. He was an award winning part-time instructor at Arthur Murray Dance Studio for over 15 years, where he met his wife.
Married in Kauii, HI in 1988, to his loving wife Joan Esola, they settled in South Brunswick, NJ to begin their life together. They raised two beautiful daughters, Gina and Maria. Joan worked for J&J for 27 years, before they decided to move to the beach in Delaware. Robert, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend will leave behind a legacy of placing love and family above all else.
Robert loved to travel the world and visited throughout Europe, South America, many areas within the Caribbean and all over the US. His passion for reading, bike riding and hiking was always in the forefront of his interests. He was a great story teller and loved to amuse his friends and relatives with humorous anecdotes of his childhood and army days. He always gave everyone the benefit of the doubt, he was generous, a fabulous mentor, a nurturing soul who always made you feel safe and special; he was a humble and loving spirit.
In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his two brothers, William and Ralph and his sister, Rose Olsen. He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Joan Esola-Macre, two daughters: Maria Mastro of Burlington, NJ and Gina Gillen and her husband James of Atco, NJ; six grandchildren: Maria Grace, Cara, Emma, Gianna Mastro, James Robert and Joseph Patrick Gillen; and his one brother, Joseph and his wife Marie Macre.
Two separate memorial services will be held in Robert's honor. The first service will be held on Sunday, May 18, 2014 at 12:30 PM at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE, where friends may visit beginning at 11:30 AM. The second service for family and friends who reside in NJ, will be held on Saturday, May 24, 2014 at 12:00 PM at M.J. Murphy Funeral Home, 616 Ridge Road, Monmouth Junction, NJ 00852-2960, where friends may visit beginning at 11:00 AM. Interment will be private.
