Richard "Ricky" B. Catts' Obituary
Richard “Ricky” B. Catts FNP, age 45, of Rehoboth Beach, DE passed away on Tuesday, September 6, 2016 at his residence. He was born on August 7, 1971 in Milford, DE, son of Constance (Russell) Catts and the late Wilson B. Catts.
Ricky grew up in Rehoboth Beach attending grade school there and graduating with the class of 1990 from Cape Junior High School. He continued his higher education attending Wesley College, University of Delaware, Beebe School of Nursing and Wilmington University. He obtained several degrees’ including: a BS in Criminal Justice, Masters Degree in Nursing and his Family Nurse Practitioner Certification.
During his schooling, Ricky worked various local jobs including: Penn Del Communications, Rehoboth and Dewey Beach Police Departments as a seasonal police officer and dispatcher, Ed’s Chicken and Crabs, Old Inlet Dive Shop, Catts Beach Service, and his favorite, Rehoboth Beach Convention Center. In his professional career, Ricky worked for Beebe Hospital, Beebe Urology Associates, Sussex Correctional Institution, and Nanticoke Health Services. Ricky had a true passion for caring and helping people and shined through every day.
Staying busy, Ricky pursued his passion of fire arms and opened Delaware Firearms, LLC in 2015. He quickly became well known and respected in the area for his great business practices and knowledge. He was also a well loved instructor, teaching countless concealed carry classes.
Ricky was an active member of the NRA and the Delaware Nurses Association. He also was a Life Member of the Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Company holding past position of Ambulance Captain. In his free time, Ricky loved all things outdoors including, shooting, hiking, camping and vacations with his family. He also enjoyed cooking, reading, history and always learning to further his knowledge. More than anything, Ricky cherished his family and the time he spent with them. Ricky will be remembered for his professional group messages and his ultimate story’s he told.
In addition to his mother, Ricky is survived by his three children: Blake R., Morgan K. and Ashley E. Catts and their mother, Katy Catts, all of Rehoboth Beach, DE; his two brothers: JP Phillips and his companion Claire of Milton, DE and Russell Catts and his wife, Kim of Rehoboth Beach, DE; his sister, Sharon Figun of Dewey Beach, DE; his two nephews: Nick Figun and Garrett Catts; his niece, Chandlee Catts; and his precious cat, Mittens.
A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, September 12, 2016 at 12:00 PM, at Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE 19958 where friends may visit beginning at 11:00 AM. Friends may also visit the funeral home on Sunday, September 11, 2016 from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM. Interment will immediately follow the funeral services at Epworth Methodist Cemetery, Rehoboth Beach, DE.
