Richard Murray Sr.'s Obituary
Richard “Da” Murray, Sr., age 68, of Rehoboth Beach, DE, formerly of Baltimore, MD, died suddenly on Monday, August 15, 2011, at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes, DE. He was born on Thursday, July 8, 1943 in Manhattan, NY son of late George and Julia (Bernath) Murray.
Mr. Murray enjoyed a 30 year career working for the Mass Transit Administration, Baltimore, MD. He was known as the singing bus driver and was honored as Bus Driver of the Year by the Federation of the Blind. Mr. Murray was very involved in his community, Sea Air Village, Rehoboth Beach, where he participated regularly in night watch and was the “Choo Choo Train Driver” at all the community picnics. He enjoyed science fiction, murder mysteries, detective shows, walking, and telling stories of his many outrageous experiences on the bus. Mr. Murray was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend who will be missed.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Murray was preceded in death by his daughter, Julia Rose Murray, and his sister, Rosemary Murray. He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Deborah G. (Burr) Murray; son, Richard “Riva” Francis Joseph Murray and his fiancée Lauren VanDrunen of Lewes, DE; daughter, Jayne “Carrot Top” Ann Ellen Rudy Bernath Eliason and her fiancé Amos Felton of Rehoboth Beach, DE; and one granddaughter, Sarah Eliason.
A viewing will be held on Saturday, August 20, 2011, where the family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Red Cross,1973 Bay Road, Milford, DE 19963 or to Gift of Life, 401 North 3rd St., Philadelphia, PA 19123.
