Richard Joseph Kempf's Obituary
Richard Joseph Kempf, age 81, of Rehoboth Beach, DE, passed away on Thursday, December 8, 2022.
Born on January 14, 1941, in Elizabeth, NJ, he was the son of the late Adam and Kathyrn (Gulmi) Kempf.
Mr. Kempf married the love of his life, Mary Sandra “Sandy” Bowers and he and Sandy would spend the next 55 years together, building a wonderful life together and raising 2 beautiful children. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Chemistry at Seton Hall University in South Orange, NJ, then completed his master’s degree and Ph. D at Penn State, in University Park, PA. He enjoyed a lengthy career as a chemist for the Dupont Corporation working in Wilmington, DE and Towanda, PA. It was a career that challenged and fulfilled him, and he made many friends during his time there. He was a member of the American Chemist’s Society. In his spare time, he was an avid and competitive bridge player as well as a member of the American Contract Bridge League. Above all the time spent with those he held most dear was what he most cherished. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who had the good fortune to know him.
Mr. Kempf is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Sandra “Sandy” Kempf; his daughter, Gwendolyn D. Aboutboul; his son, Richard T. Kempf; his granddaughters, Lee-elle and Noa Aboutboul, all of Rehoboth Beach, DE; and his sister, Virginia Goger of Virginia.
Interment to take place at a later date at the Palm Royale Cemetery and Mausoleum in Naples, FL.
