Richard T. Hunt's Obituary
Richard "Dick" T. Hunt, age 65, of Lewes, DE, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 21, 2011 at Delaware Hospice Center, Milford, DE. He was born in Tulsa,Oklahoma on Thursday, December 20, 1945, son of Helen L. (Stewart) Hunt, of Baltimore, MD and the late Aaron Trent Hunt.
Dick's family moved to Baltimore, MD, where he attended Towson High School. He was a starting member and point guard for their basketball team, leading the team to two State championships. He received his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering in 1972 and his Master's in 1974, both from the University of Virginia.
From 1978 to 1984, he served as a senior geotechnical engineer, project manager and manager of hydropower and water resources projects for Charles T. Main, Inc, of Charlotte, NC. During this time, he managed projects involving safety inspections and evaluations of several hundred dams, directed hydropower feasibility studies and supervised application preparations for permits and licenses.
In April 1986, he was appointed the Director of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission's Office of Hydropower Licensing, a Senior Executive Service position.
In 1990, he participated in a Heavy Construction Delegation to the Peoples Republic of China. He also participated in the Helsinki, Finland conference to prepare the hydropower papers for the 1992 Rio Energy Summit. Dick ended his career with four years as a Senior Research Associate for the Idaho National Energy & Environmental Laboratory in Idaho Falls, ID, furthering hydropower technology.
After retiring to Delaware, he became the treasurer for the Woods on Herring Creek neighborhood association. His hobbies included collecting and repairing vintage radios, skiing and boating. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends and all that knew him.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 20 years, Judith A. Hunt of Lewes, DE; a daughter, Margot Johnson of Alexandria, VA; a grandson, John Clifford Johnson, IV of Alexandria, VA; a brother, Philip Hunt of Baltimore, MD; and a sister, Aarlen Hunt of Alexandria, VA.
Memorial Services will be held on Thursday, May 26, 2011 at 2:00 PM at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes. Friends may call at the funeral home at 1:00 PM. Interment will be private.
A Second Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at 2:30 PM at the First Christian Church, 5802 Roland Avenue, Baltimore, MD, 21212
