Richard Calvin Hunt's Obituary
Richard (Sonny) Hunt, age 87, of Frankford, DE, died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on December 21, 2022. He was born December 2, 1935, in Charlottesville, VA, the son of Richard Calvin and Lillian Catherine Hunt.
After graduating from Damascus High School in 1955, Sonny served our country in the US Army active duty at Fort Knox, Kentucky and in the Army Reserves for 10 years. He worked for Safeway Stores Incorporated for 41 years, retiring in 1995. Sonny grew up in Gaithersburg and Cedar Grove, MD. He lived with his wife, Barbara, in Monrovia, MD, before moving to Ocean City in 2015.
In addition to his parents, Sonny is predeceased by his sisters, Thelma Mowl and Shelby Butcher, and brothers, Ray Hunt and Steve Hunt. Sonny is survived by his devoted wife, Barbara Hunt. In addition to his wife, Sonny leaves his loving children -- Margaret Hunt of Selbyville, DE, Michael Hunt (Jennifer) of Knoxville, MD, and Tanya Bosco (Greg) of Naples, FL. He also leaves his grandchildren, Dylan Hunt, Austin Hunt, and Sophia Bosco. He is survived by one brother, Jack Hunt (Pat) of Staunton, VA, and several nieces and nephews. Sonny was loved by many friends who will miss his sense of humor and kindness.
A celebration of life for Sonny will be held on Saturday, May 6, 2023, at the VFW, 29265 Marshy Hope Way, Ocean View, DE. A reception will begin at 1:00 p.m., followed by a remembrance of Sonny's life at 2:30 p.m. Light refreshments will be served, so please RSVP to the family by April 12 if you plan to attend.
