Richard Appleby Hewlett's Obituary
Richard A. Hewlett, age 84, of Rehoboth Beach, DE passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 30, 2011 at his residence with his family by his side. He was born on May 9, 1927, son of the late Charles and Sophronia (Farmer) Hewlett. He was raised in Old New Castle, DE and moved to Rehoboth Beach in 1993.
He was a US Navy veteran of WWII and Korea and retired from DuPont Engineering Department in Newark in 1985. He was a member of the St. John's Lodge # 2 AF&AM and the Scottish Rite, Valley of Wilmington and was a member of Nur Shriner's. He was past President of the Ritual Unit, Shrine Club of Delaware and Lower Delaware Shrine Club. He was also a member of the First State Shrine Club, Royal Order of Jesters Wilmington Court No. 164, Kachina Club and American Legion Post #5.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Jean O. (Hoeger Hewlett, one son, David Hewlett and his wife Katie of Wilmington, DE, two daughters; Sari Hewlett- Pacheco and her husband, Dorian of Liverpool, TX and Leslie Toulson and her husband Tim of Monroeville, NJ. and five grandchildren; Amanda and Christopher Hewlett, Austin and Mikayla Pacheco and Harley Toulson.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, July 7, 2011 at 10:00 AM at All Saints Episcopal Church, 18 Olive Avenue, Rehoboth Beach, DE. Friends may call on Wednesday from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes. A Masonic Service will be conducted by St John's Lodge #2, AF & AM at the funeral home on Wednesday at 7:30 PM.
Interment will be on Friday, July 8, 2011 at 1:00 PM at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE 19701.
