Richard Carl Hanewinckel's Obituary
It is with great sadness that the family of Richard Carl Hanewinckel of Dewey Beach, Delaware and Delray Beach, Florida, announce his passing, on July 28, 2018, at age 64 with family and close friends at his side, after a brief illness.
Richard will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 15 years, Marcia Schieck and Lana, the couple's beloved dog; his two sisters, Barbara Hassard (and partner Charlie) of Annapolis, MD, and Jean Manis (and partner Tom) of Wilmington, DE. Richard will be greatly missed by his nephews, Dr. David Hassard (and wife Kendra) of Chicago, IL, and Jonathan Manis (and wife Marcella) of Middletown, DE; as well as, his nieces, Kelly Sakellariou (and husband Nilos) of Annapolis, MD, and Lauren Manis of Wilmington, DE; and his five great-nieces and great-nephew. Richard was predeceased by his parents, Norman and Lillian Hanewinckel of Wilmington, Delaware.
Rich was truly a first-class gentleman. He was a man of principle, hard work and commitment, who had an inspirational devotion to his wife, family, friends and community, as well as his beloved dog, Lana, with whom he shared a special bond. Kind and immensely generous…there are simply not enough words to describe the beautiful imprint he left on those around him. Richard was a proud University of Delaware alumnus, former Dewey Beach Town Commissioner, and wildly successful real estate business entrepreneur with his wife and partner, Marcia.
Nothing defined Rich more than his endless devotion to his beautiful wife of 15 years, Marcia, who was equally devoted to him. The couple spent seven days a week, twenty-four hours a day together as partners in both business and life, something neither would have had any other way. Theirs was truly a fairy tale story of two lives, beautifully and magically intertwined. Rich and Marcia shared a love that most don't experience in a lifetime.
He was passionate and committed to the Dewey Beach vacation rental business the couple built together from scratch. When not hard at work, Rich could be found equally hard at play... pursuing other passions for music, travel, and the outdoors. If you asked Rich where his favorite place in the world was, he would have said, “with Marcia,” and had a hard time deciding if that was in Dewey Beach or the couple’s winter home in Delray Beach. He would not, however, have a hard time choosing a favorite television show, The Walking Dead, hands down.
He often expressed how eternally blessed he felt for all the adventures shared with close family and amazing friends. Known in those circles as the "infamous grill-meister," he was the sort of guy who gleefully joined Marcia in schemes to surprise friends with something extravagantly special, from a live blue grass ensemble or a 12- piece mariachi band, to the Cape Henlopen High School Chorus who serenaded him this past year on his 64th birthday at the couples’ favorite ocean front retreat during one of their infamous celebrations. He cherished most the gatherings and time he shared with his amazing family. The Christmas celebrations were magical and outrageously fun get-togethers that were full of love. Though often found quietly enjoying the merry melee from the sidelines, he will be remembered for interjecting wit with a sense of humor that left everyone belly laughing when they least expected it.
Rich will be immensely missed by all, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of those who loved and adored him most.
“Richard, my love…you defined my world. You were my rock, my soul, my calm and my adventure. Our beautiful journey here together was cut far too short, but the bond, love and respect we shared for each other transformed our lives into something most never experience…because of you, I am forever blessed, my heart aches but my love for you is eternal…Marcia
