Richard S. Baker's Obituary
Richard S. Baker, age 72, of Middletown, DE and Palm City, FL, formerly of Rehoboth Beach and Wilmington, DE, passed away on Tuesday, March 10, 2015 after battling ALS. He was born in Wilmington, DE on April 11, 1942, son of the late Francis J. Sr. and Lora Lee (Eaton) Baker.
Earning the rank of Corporal, Richard proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1961-1966. Richard loved boating, and obtained his Captains license where he chartered fishing trips out of DE and FL waters. He also enjoyed traveling around the world to participate in deep sea fishing tournaments. Richard was a member of the VFW Post 10132, Hope Sound, FL where he served as a Senior Vice-Commander, member of the honor guard, and the VFW Riders. Riding his Harley with friends was one of his favorite pastimes. Richard owned and operated his own general contracting business, DBHI, until his retirement.
Mr. Baker is survived by his loving daughter, Kristine Baker of Middletown, DE who cared for him in his final year; 3 brothers, Mickey Baker and his wife Fran of Harbeson, DE; Bill Baker and his wife Pat of Millsboro, DE; Tom Baker of New Castle, DE; 7 nieces and nephews, Keith, Karla, Kimberly, Karen, Bill, Christopher, and Nicholas.
A Memorial Service with military honors will be held on Friday, March 20, 2015 at 2:00 PM at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery Chapel, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro, DE 19966.
