Richard Aversa's Obituary
Richard “Rich” F. Aversa, age 72, passed away at his home, after a lengthy illness, on Wednesday April 19, 2023.Rich was born on August 18, 1950, and was the child of Alice B. (Johnson) and Vincent J. Aversa.
He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Marlene P. Aversa; his one daughter, Carrie A Gruentzel, and her husband Michael; and his three grandchildren: Carissa, Katelyn, and Ryan. Rich is also survived by his brother, Vincent Aversa Jr., and his wife Carol; his brother Guy Aversa; his sister Barbara L. Sykes, and her husband Don. On Marlene's side of the family, he is survived by his sisters-in-law: Anita Thibodeaux and her husband Charest, Lois Dunson, and brother-in-law, Michael Pitman, and his wife Frances.He also had many nephews, nieces, great-nephews, and grandnieces as well as many cousins.
Rich had a great, outgoing, fun personality; he was loved by his family and friends and will be sorely missed!
Born in Baltimore, Rich grew up in the Severna Park, MD area and graduated from Severna Park High School in 1969. After high school, Rich went into the USAF Reserves and served six years, stationed at Andrews AFB, in Maryland. After his active-duty stint with the Air Force, Rich became a Professional Fire Fighter for Anne Arundel County, MD. Rich had fond memories and was Very Proud of his time in both services.
Rich joined the family business (Vince's Deli, Inc.) as Sr. VP and helped continue the expansion and growth of the business until he was offered a Sales Management Position at Hobart Corporation.
He continued in this industry until retiring as Sr. VP of Sales & Marketing at Varimixer in Shreveport, LA., where he had met his wife, Marlene.
After Retirement, Rich and Marlene moved to the Lewes, DE area, where they lived for the remainder of his life.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff of Hospice Delaware and Coastal Home Care for their warm and loving care they extended to Rich.
A special thanks to Dr. Jean Ann Yaccino, Dr. Kevin Caldwell, Samantha, NP, as well as Melissa and KaRinda.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 27, 2023, at 3:00 PM at Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes, DE, where friends may visit beginning at 2:00 PM.The service will be conducted by Deacon Marty Barrett of St. Jude The Apostle Catholic Church.
