Richard C. Arnold's Obituary
Richard C. Arnold, age 82 of Lewes, DE, passed away on Thursday, January 26, 2023, at Delaware Hospice Center, in Milford, DE. He was born on December 31, 1940, in Brooklyn, NY, son of the late Constanten and Stella Arnold.
Richard and his family moved to Asbury Park, NJ when he was 7, and that is where he spent most of his years. After graduating from Red Bank High School, he entered college. He joined the US Air Force in 1960. During Richard’s active duty, he was trained as a communications specialist and stationed in the Azores and in Texas. When his service was complete, his career with the National Security Agency began.
Richard was married in 1964 and blessed with a son in 1966. This was also the time the NSA offered the role of communications officer, serving overseas in England. Richard welcomed the position happily and fulfilled the role from 1966 to 1972.
Richard worked various assignments for the NSA, and the Security and Inspection division of the COMSEC organization. He traveled across the US conducting security inspections to the Department of Defense contractors and civil agencies. During this time, Richard was also a Chief Warrant Officer with the US Army Reserve in the Special Security Services Section of the 342nd Army Security Agency located at Fort Meade, Maryland.
Richard was a stellar example of duty and service to his country serving in the Air Force and Army.
Richard had many interests and hobbies, including traveling, bartending, gardening, and the American Legion.
He is survived by his beloved husband of 37 years, Ronald Heinefield of Lewes, DE; his son, Joseph Arnold; his sister Susan Arnold; and his brother,Thomas Arnold.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 2, 2023, at 11:00 AM, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE, where friends may call beginning at 10:00 AM. Additionally, a viewing will be held the night prior, Wednesday, February 1, 2023, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, at the funeral home. Interment with military honors will follow the funeral service at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro, DE.
