Reginald Irving Effort Jr.'s Obituary
Reginald "Reggie" Irving Effort Jr. ,age 84 of Lewes, DE passed away on Thursday, March 23, 2023. He was born on August 31, 1938 in North Tarrytown, NY, son of the late Reginald I. Effort, Sr. and Geraldine Effort.
A proud veteran, Mr. Effort enlisted in the US Air Force after graduating high school and honorably served his country. After his honorable discharge, Mr. Effort began a lifelong career with IBM in the security department, a job he found both rewarding and challenging at times. On August 30, 1991, he married his beloved wife, Patricia Beckett-Effort and together they enjoyed many beautiful years and numerous adventures. An outdoorsman to his core, he enjoyed fishing and traveling, and could often be found playing cards with dear friends and family. He was a dedicated volunteer for many community service groups in White Plains, NY, and Delaware, an activity he found most rewarding. Mr. Effort was a proud member of The Sons of the American Legion Post 28, Millsboro, DE., AMVet Post 2, Millsboro, DE, Tarrytown Rod and Gun Club, and Tarrytown N.A.AC.P. He truly cherished time spent with those he held most dear, above all. Mr. Effort was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Loved by many, he will be forever missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers: Melvin, Rodney, Wayne, Dennis, and Carlton. Mr. Effort is survived by his beloved wife of 32 years, Patricia Beckett-Effort; his children: Kendall V. Effort, Reginald Effort lll, and Thomas Greene; his grandchildren; his sisters: Lorraine Taylor, Loretta Smith, and Karen Simmons; and his numerous nephews and cousins.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, April 4, 2023, at 11:00 AM at Conley’s United Methodist Church, 33106 Jolyns Way, Lewes, DE 19958, where friends may visit beginning at 10:00 AM.
