Rebecca Schellenger's Obituary
Rebecca Catesby Schellenger, age 59, of Georgetown, DE, passed away on November 1st, 2017 at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford, Delaware. “Becky” is survived by her father, W. Allen “AJ” Jones; her brother, W. Allen “Skip” Jones, Jr.; her sister-in-law, Carol Custer Jones; her nephew, Ross Allen Jones; and by her niece, Meghan Marie Fishman. Becky was preceded in death by her husband Harry Allen Schellenger in 2003; and by her mother, Ann Walker Jones in 2016.
Becky was born in Bridgeville and grew up at 113 Delaware Avenue, just down the street from her grandparents, Bill and Rebecca Ferguson. She graduated from Woodbridge High School in 1975. Thereafter she attended Wesley College in Dover. Becky then spent a year working in Florida before returning to the Rehoboth-Lewes area, eventually building a home on Johnson Road, near Indian Mission, where she met her late husband Harry Schellenger of Lewes, Delaware. Becky and Harry were married at St George’s Chapel in 1994. Over the years Becky worked in the restaurant industry; as a florist; in insurance sales; and eventually found her calling in caring for dogs. In 2006 she started and managed an instantly popular “cageless” boarding facility at her home known as THE GOOD DOG INN. The business continues successfully today under the ownership and direction of Becky’s longtime friend, Crystal Choplick.
As a teenager Becky loved horses. She and close friends, Molly Lewis and Kim Ray, spent countless hours riding their horses along the ditch banks and field edges just west of Bridgeville.
Becky’s experience working in restaurant kitchens made her home a delicious place to dine. She loved cooking from scratch and entertaining. Her niece reports that Becky’s fresh ground coffee was the best on the east coast.
Undoubtedly Becky’s favorite place on earth was Green Turtle Cay in the Bahamas. Evidence of this fact can be found from the bumper stickers on her cars to the pictures throughout her home, but most of all, in Becky’s choice of her final resting place.
Becky was loved by many and will be sorely missed by all her family and friends. God bless you and Godspeed Becky.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, November 8, 2017, at 11:00 AM at St. Mary's Episcopal Church, 2 North Williams Street, Bridgeville, DE, where friends may visit beginning at 10:00 AM. Interment will be private.
