Raymond Westrod's Obituary
Raymond Westrod, age 80, of Rehoboth Beach, DE, formerly of Dover, DE, passed away on Tuesday, December 20, 2022. He was born on March 25, 1942, in Ridgely, MD, son of the late Joseph A. Westrod and Julia Bruncz.
As someone who had a gift for numbers, Mr. Westrod’s career path led him to a life-long career in banking and finance, retiring after thirty-two years from PNC (previously the Bank of Delaware). He rose to the position of branch manager and served at PNC’s two offices in Milford. After retirement, he decided to try his hand in automotive sales. Discovering that he had a knack for the business, he worked for Willis Chevrolet in Smyrna, for many years. Mr. Westrod believed in giving back to his community. He volunteered in many organizations, the Lions Clubs of Milford and Rehoboth Beach, the Milford Chamber of Commerce, the March of Dimes, Junior Miss Pageants, AIB past president and was a lifetime member of the Jaycee’s. A man of many interests, he enjoyed coin collecting, playing chess and teaching others to play. He loved classic cars, especially his 1968 Chevy Camaro (his pride and joy). His love of life was contagious, the life of the party. Mr. Westrod’s family and friends have dozens of warm memories of seeing him dancing and the jokes that he played. He was everyone’s favorite Santa, a role that he lovingly played during Christmas for family and friends for over fifty years. His devotion to his family, however, took precedence above all and he cherished time spent with those he held dear. Mr. Westrod was a loving and devoted husband, father, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who had the good fortune to know him.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Westrod was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Westrod. He is survived by his wife and love of his life for thirty-one years, Ann Hirs Westrod; his daughter, Kimberly W. Bullock (Wyatt) of Millsboro, DE, and her mother, Candace F. Abbott of Georgetown, DE; stepdaughters, Robin Lano (Nicholas) of Middletown, DE, Catherine Purdy (Mark) of Lake Orion, MI, Tracey Skahen (Derek) of Springfield, VA; nine grandchildren, Kade Bullock, Saige Bullock, Natalie Oliveras (Eliezer), Nicholas Lano, Emily Fraser (Tanner), Hayley Purdy, Melanie Skahen, Stephanie Skahen, and Allyson Skahen; one great-granddaughter, Gianna; his sister, Ruth Ann VerCammen (Fred) of Georgetown, DE; and his loving Yorkipoo, “Bennie”.
Services will be private.
