Raymond Walter Shaffer, age 93 of Rehoboth Beach, DE passed away at home on Monday, November 6, 2023. He was born on April 22, 1930, in Coal Township, PA, son of the late Guy A. and Frances (Clue) Shaffer.
Mr. Shaffer was a proud veteran, having honorably served in the US Army during the Korean War Era. After his honorable discharge, he built a career as a steel worker for Baldt Anchor Company in Chester, PA, retiring in 1994 after more than 20 dedicated years. He loved the outdoors, boating and fishing with his family and friends as often as he could. Faith was a pillar in his life, and he was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church, Lewes, DE. Mr. Shaffer was also a former member of the West End Boat Club in Delaware County, PA, a member of Rehoboth Beach American Legion, and VFW. Although he enjoyed all his hobbies, he truly cherished the time spent with those important to him, above all.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Shaffer was predeceased by his beloved wife of 59 years, Louisa Shaffer who passed away in 2013; his siblings: Goldie Shaffer, Chester Shaffer, Sr, James Shaffer, and Robert Shaffer; and his niece, Raejean Shaffer. He is survived by his nieces and nephews: Ann Bailey of Rehoboth Beach, DE, Albert DiBuonaventura (Donna) of Mickelton, NJ, Denise Grabowski (Daniel) of Estero, FL, Chester Shaffer, Jr. (Michelle), Rose Rohm, Iris Star, Maryann Wilson, Kimberly Shaffer, all of Coal Township, PA; and his great niece, Rachel Wilke (Reece) of Haddon Township, NJ; and his great great nephew, Jack Paul Wilke.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2024 at 2:00 PM, at Bethel United Methodist Church, 129 W 4th St, Lewes, DE 19958.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations in Mr. Shaffer's memory to Bethel United Methodist Church, 129 W 4th St, Lewes, DE 19958.
