Raymond Charles Jung's Obituary
Raymond Charles Jung, age 87 of Milton, DE, passed away on September 14, 2023, surrounded by loved ones. He was born on October 29, 1935, in Baltimore, MD, son of the late John and Katherine (Buehner) Jung.
After Ray graduated from Baltimore Polytechnic Institute in 1953, he joined the mechanical contracting firm, The Poole and Kent Company, in an entry level position as a steamfitter apprentice. He enrolled in the Mechanical Engineering program at Johns Hopkins University, where he graduated with a B.S. in Engineering in 1966.
Ray spent his whole career with Poole and Kent, an employee-owned firm where he became a majority owner and assumed his final positions of Executive Vice President, Treasurer, and Corporate Secretary. During his time with the firm, it went from one of the smaller Mechanical Contracting firms in Baltimore, to the largest privately held Mechanical Contracting firm in the U.S., with a volume of over $400,000,000 a year.
Ray was an active member and contributor to a number of organizations and boards, including Life Member of ASHRAE and The Engineering Society of Baltimore, Board of Directors, Johns Hopkins Evening College Alumni Association for 14 years, and Board of Directors, Mechanical Contractors Association of Maryland and MCAA.
After retirement from Poole and Kent in 2002, Ray lived in Williamsburg, VA for six years, then in Milton, DE for 15 years. He made a deep impact on many lives, personally and professionally. Ray had a deep faith and chose to live a life of meaningful acts of love and service. He always made time to help others, had very strong values, and did everything with honesty and integrity. He had an unquenchable thirst for knowledge. In his spare time, he enjoyed reading, staying current on the latest news, and playing golf. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his wife, family and friends.
A beloved husband, son, brother, father, grandfather, co-worker and friend, Ray will forever be remembered for his unconditional love, generosity and loyalty to family and friends. Ray’s intelligence, leadership, precision, and strong work ethic was greatly admired by all. He had an amazing memory and was a fun spirited soul who loved to entertain people with an extensive repertoire of jokes. Ray had the uncanny ability to tell a joke on demand, on any subject! We know he is holding court in heaven now. His memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. May he rest in eternal peace.
In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by his late wife of 35 years, Una (McMahan) Jung, with whom he raised his daughters; his brother, John Jung Jr.; and his sister, Hilda Faulkner. He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Margaret Anne Jung; his daughters: Lisa Jung-King and Dianne Jung Sothoron; five grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and two step great grandchildren; and his sister, Katherine Garrity.
A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, December 16 at 11 am at St. John the Baptist Episcopal Church, 307 Federal St, Milton, DE, with a Celebration of Life following. The service will be live-streamed at https://www.stjohnthebaptistmilton.org/worship-services.html
