Ransford Bryan Pepper's Obituary
Ransford Bryan Pepper, 83, of Lewes passed away Sunday, January 24, 2010 at the Country Rest Home in Greenwood. Bryan was born May 19, 1926 in Lewes, the son of the late Kline G. And Bertie Bryan Pepper
After graduating from Lewes High School in 1943, he joined the United States Marines "1" Company, Sixth Marine Division, serving from May 1944 to August 1946 . He fought in the bloodiest War in the Pacific on Okinawa during World War II and was a Corporal at the time of his discharge having served his country proudly. After his discharge, he learned carpentry from his father and helped build and improve many homes in Lewes and the surrounding area.
Bryan also worked at Fort Miles Fire Department several years, then transfered to the Dover Air Force Base Fire Department. He retired as Chief of the Department in 1976 after twenty-seven years in civil service. He continued working as a carpenter until he retired in 2002.
Bryan was a Life Member of the Lewes Fire Department, a 32nd degree Mason of the Jefferson Lodge, member of the Grand Lodge A. F. A. M. of Delaware for fifty years; a Life Member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite; a Life Member of the Lower Delaware Shield and Square Club; a Life Member of the American Legion of Lewes and a member of the Moose Lodge. He will be missed by many.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Winifred Pierce, a brother-in-law Joseph R. Brown, a sister-in-law Patricia Rhodes, and a daughter-in-law Bambi B. Pepper.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-nine years, Ruth Saulsbury Pepper of Lewes; a daughter, Shirley Mitchell of Lewes; three sons, Kline and wife Julie of Fogelsville, PA; George and wife Kathy, of Lewes; Donald ‘Doc' and wife Paula of Rehoboth Beach; three sisters: Elizabeth and husband George Mallet-Prevost, of Newark; Mary Ellen and husband Ralph Knotts of Magnolia; and Patsy Brown of Milton; two brothers-in-law: Charles Saulsbury and his wife Rita of Camden, DE, and Dan Saulsbury and his wife Charlotte of Albany, CA; a Sister-in-law Mary Dunn and her husband Jimmy of Davenport, Fl; eight Grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, Jan. 28, 2010 at 11:00 AM at the Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE where friends may call one hour prior to services. Burial will be in Henlopen Memorial Park, near Milton, DE.
