Ralton Henry Dennis' Obituary
Ralton Henry Dennis, age 85, of Rehoboth Beach, DE, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at Harbor Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center in Lewes, DE. He was born March 15. 1926 in Lewes, son of the late Virgil Lee and Bertha Ellen (Mitchell) Dennis.
Ralton was a lifelong resident of the Lewes and Rehoboth Beach areas. When Ralton decided to get involved, he threw his whole heart and soul into the work of his chosen organizations. Ralton enjoyed a 34 year career with the DuPont Company retiring in 1981 as a machine operator. He then worked as a Funeral Home Assistant for Parsell Funeral Homes for over 20 years. He attained life member status with the Lewes Volunteer Fire Department in 1978 where over the years he served in many capacities including Ambulance Captain for 19 years, president for two years, Squad Lieutenant for 3 years making over 4000 runs, and in 1988 he became a member of the Fire Police. He was a member of Jefferson Lodge #15 since 1958; member of the DE Consistory since 1988; member of Nur Temple since 1988; member of the Lower DE Shrine Club since 1980 where he served as past President in 1991. Ralton was a member of Lewes Lions Club since 1951 where he received life member status in 1991. During his membership in Lions he served as President from1955-1956; had Perfect Attendance for 37 years; and received the highest award in Lions, the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award in 1997. He was also a member of the Lewes Presbyterian Church since 1940 where he had served as Trustee and Elder in 1964 and served as President of the Trustees for two years.
During WW II he proudly served with the U.S. Marine Corp.
In addition to his parents, Ralton was preceded in death by his wife Thelma (Schaeffer) Dennis (2005) and a stepson Robert Langrell. He is survived by his step-children: Charlotte Fitzpatrick of Hubert, NC, Milton "Butch" Archer of Lewes and Kenneth Archer of Millsboro; his brother Richard Dennis of Florida and many step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services with Fireman's Honors will be held on Monday, December 26, 2011 at 11:00 AM at the Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE where friends may call beginning at 9:00 AM. Interment will be at White's Chapel, Milton, DE.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Lewes Volunteer Fire Department, PO Box 225, Lewes, DE 19958.
